CrossWalk

Joe opened this meeting with a discussion of Crosswalk. He handed out a document explaining more about Crosswalk and then went through the document with us. He said the purpose of this new ministry is to get men engaged with the public and with each other. It isn’t replacing the other activities the men’s ministry is involved with; however, this will become the main focus of the men’s ministry.

After we finished reviewing the document, Doug had a concern about this new ministry. He didn’t think we would be able to get men involved with it considering their response to other events we have had. Joe explained that this program is more uplifting and more attractive than some of the other events we have held. Johnny also had questions about how we would go about motivating our men to participate. Joe replied that the men will participate if they truly feel that there is a value-add aspect to the meeting. Luis also inquired about how we plan on getting men to open up to each other. Joe said that men feel the most open when they are with regular guys. He mentioned that he attended a home group because he considered everyone in the group his friend. Luis stated that in the past home groups haven’t worked at ACC.

Luis questioned how we determine a meeting location for these events. Joe’s vision is that each group would find a location that was relatively close to the member’s homes and jobs. Joe also added that the committee wouldn’t necessarily be involved in picking the location. That would be the job of the facilitator. Normally, groups would be meeting in offices before work starts or the back room of a restaurant. Jim stated that we would need several locations in order for this to work. Joe agreed. Luis believes we should focus our energy on getting men more active and then we can work on Crosswalk.

Scott inquired about whether or not there would be an evaluation period. Joe believed that the program would be in an evaluation period until the start of January. Johnny stated that the men’s ministry would need to spend a lot of time in prayer about this. Luis asked if Crosswalk had been presented to the elders yet. Joe replied that he has indeed met with the elders and we have full support from them as long as we use it internally within the church body.

Men’s Committee leadership

Johnny is concerned that we need a stronger foundation of leaders within the committee. We need a support group of leaders. It doesn’t appear like everyone is on the same page. Joe believes if some members aren’t fully supportive of the new direction then perhaps they should resign. Johnny said within the elders group if one elder disagrees with a new proposal then it doesn’t pass. If God says no (through that one person) to whatever is up for a vote, then He will say yes to something else.

The question was raised on what our official policy is on how we vote for or against something. Currently the committee doesn’t have a written policy on that, however traditionally if a quorum of committee members approves it, then it passes. The question was asked if we know who all the committee members are. The committee did not have a current list because some of the current members haven’t showed up in over a year. This creates some doubt about whether or not they are still members. Johnny said we should have a rule stating that there must be at least 7 members on the committee. We should also state that there must be at least a one year commitment from each member.
