Opening Scripture

In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Phil. 1:4-6

OLD Business

Previous Month's Minutes

Last month's minutes were approved with one change. We removed Jim's name from the Sidewalk Sunday Van project. This project is in need of someone to head it up.

Roberto's Report: Meeting with Mt. Sinai

Bro. Wayne Cook, President of the Mt. Sinai Men's Ministry, is hosting a monthly retreat meeting. Mike, Sedrick, Louis Martinez, and Henry Miller have offered to represent ACC at the meeting. This meeting is May 8th at 7:30PM. Mt Sinai will meet the first Monday of every Month to dicuss the retreat. The committee needs to attend these meetings so we can provide input and so that we can help out with any needs. We also expressed a desire to do more activities with Mt. Sinai Men and to work together on common goals. Over the next few months we should think of ways to meet the needs of the men at both churches in order to increase participation in the retreat.

Special update from Mike on the May 8th meeting:

Sedrick Shaw and I attended the Mt Sinai Men's Committee meeting tonight. Excellent meeting and we were well received. As you already know, both Pastors are behind this cooperative effort. Brother Wayne is a strong leader, is well organized and things are planned. Brother Wayne is pushing things forward. These are all things I did not know or understand. It certainly makes me feel good about the program. My sense of the meeting last night was that Brother Wayne and the men of Mt Sinai would like all of our Men's Committee members to attend all the meetings. They seemed a bit let down that we were only two who showed up. We were full participants in the meeting and we were asked for our input and recommendations.

Brother Clint Woods is the chairman of the Men's Retreat. The Men & Boys Retreat will be held Aug 25 - 26th, 2006 at the T Bar Ranch in New Braunfels. The cost is $52.00 per person (Man and Boy). We need input from Pastor Rick on Speakers & Topics for the Men's Retreat. We brainstormed ideas for cooperative works that would involve Mt Sinai and Austin Cornerstone men. Many good ideas of existing and new works were offered. Brother Wayne Cook will put together a list of these suggestions and forward it to us. A partial list included:

  1. Attending all men's breakfast at both churches
  2. Mentoring young men at the schools in the neighborhood around our churches (Sedrick Shaw works daily with these schools and he says they would welcome us to help by mentoring the young men at the schools).
  3. Mentoring young men in both our churches and the Mt Sinai Academy
  4. Habitat For Humanity & Mt Sinai already has a Senior’s ministry in place for doing home repairs.
  5. Fishes and Loaves - this is an active ministry at Mt Sinai that is an outreach to the homeless of Austin with food, clothing, sanitary articles and spiritual guidance.
  6. Sports teams - Softball and Basketball etc.

We agreed to meet at 8:30 AM on Saturday May 20th at Austin Cornerstone and we will furnish breakfast. Roberto, Brother Wayne will be in touch with you. One other thing, they would like to know about our participation in Promise Keepers. They might have some men who would go with our group. We need to forward information about that to Brother Wayne.

Ladies Luncheon Update

This next Sunday is the last Sunday to sign up of the ladies lunch. We are still in need of donations. There is also some concern about finances for the food. All concerned parties will contact John Butler for any financial questions. The workers are already set up for both Friday and Saturday. We will need to get all the guys at church on Wednesday to pick up the chairs.

== Men's Ministry Logo == Roberto Here are three choices for us to consider

  1. actual size
  2. actual size
  3. actual sizeactual size

Some additional thoughts from the committee were

  • We needed a name that makes us sound dangerous
  • We need a name that says we are willing to take a stand for God
  • We need something that represents men with integrity, not necessarily using the word
  • The Valor logo would be nice because it is spelled the same and means the same thing in Spanish.
  • It may be good to change the catalyst logo from Men fueled by God for God to Men fueled by Jesus for God

== Speakers Committee == Jim May

Roberto expressed a desire to send out contact information for Mike Turner, the chiropractor who spoke at the last men's breakfast. In general, Jim was asked to try to get people from the church to speak. The following is a list of several speakers that Jim will try to get to speak at the next men's breakfast:

  • George Coker
  • Pato Garica
  • The Gideons

== Men's Ministry Fund == Louis Martinez We are looking for ways to generate income for the men's ministry, in hopes that we will no longer have to ask the church to pay for our expenses. Here are a few ideas we came up with:

  • Selling coffee on Sunday morning instead of offering for a donation
  • Selling breakfast before church on Sunday morning. This would probably have to be in the multi-purpose room

Roberto motioned to start a men's ministry fund. The motion carried.

Sunday Morning Coffee

we have not provided Sunday morning coffee since Price left. When Price ran it, he and Fred Magallanes from Lockhart took care of it. When Price left, I asked Fred if he would take it over and he respectfully declined. He is willing to assist, but was reluctant to take on the leadership responsibility.

At this Saturday's Men's Ministry Committee Meeting, Joe Wargo attended as a guest. The committee voted to resume the coffee service, and Joe Wargo offered to be in charge, given that he had done it at his previous home church. Fred will be assisting Joe with this ministry.

Special update to coffee ministry

Due to some unforeseen complications with this ministry, the elders and pastor have asked that we no longer perform this service.

Sidewalk Sunday Van Update

this topic was tabled until next month. This project currently does not have anyone to head it up.

Promise Keepers

we need to send a total cost per person to the committee members. A new PK video will be shown on Mother's day Sunday at church. We would like to show a movie every other week because every week may be over kill.
