2006-04 April Men's Committee Meeting
April 1,2006

Attendance

Members: Louis Martinez, Henry Miller, Scott Sievers, Jim May, Roberto Trevino, John Butler, Paul McBride, and Daniel Hall
Guests: Willie Johnson, Pastor Yvette Garcia

Old Business

Progress Reports: Roberto

The meeting with Pastor Rick, Roberto and Pastor Mays (Mt Sinai Church) has not taken place because Pastor Mays has been out of town for the most of the past two months. If you remember, we are trying to get together and discuss how to better facilitate communication between our churches. Roberto received permission from Pastor Rick to speak with the head of Mt Sinai Men’s Ministry. Roberto will set that up and report back to the committee next month.
Roberto then updated us on Habitat for Humanity. Our Church does not currently have the funds to sponsor a building project within the Windsor Window. However, we can still volunteer as individuals and work at locations throughout Austin. After the Kimberly house project is completed, we will look into the best way to get the church involved with Habitat for Humanity.

Speaker's Subcommittee: Jim

Jim has lined up a speaker for our next men’s breakfast. The speaker is a professional Chiropractor who will be sharing with us his testimony.

Ladies Luncheon: John

John informed the committee that the announcements and sign up sheet will be distributed on April 9th. He is also taking on the responsibility of keeping the other ministries informed and up to date. The invitations will be handed out from April 23rd – May 7th. Lastly, Paul and Daniel will work with John on creating a special power point presentation for the luncheon. This will be separate from the one Yvette is creating for us. It will need to contain pictures of Pastor Yvette, Faye Randall, Rick’s mom, Shannon and a few other specific women. The new PowerPoint project was put to a vote and the project was approved.

Promise Keepers (PK) 2006: Willie & Scott

Willie encouraged the committee members to purchase Promise Keepers (PK) hats and T-shirts in order to start getting the word out on PK. Willie will be heading up a PK sub-committee. Possible committee members include Lonnie, and Pete. After it is formed, the PK sub-committee will need to start distributing written announcements as early as July 16th. This early notice should help get the work out about the costs involved with the event. We will probably start off with just text announcements in the bulletin and the pre-church PowerPoint announcements.
The sub-committee will be meeting to discuss the following issues:
When should the men have their money in by?
Where will we be staying and how many rooms do we need?
Can we afford a bus?
Who is making announcements?
Who is going to communicate with Mt. Sinai?
Can we do scholarships for those who can’t afford it?
How can we increase church participation? (i.e. lay-a-way plan)

There was also a suggestion to start a PK survey to see who is interested in being on the PK sub-committee. A motion was made to start informing the church about PK. The motion also included the creation of the sub-committee which will, in addition to its many tasks, keep pastor informed on the latest PK developments. Lastly, Scott has been in contact with the men’s ministry leader of Austin Christian Center. Scott motioned to begin communication with the church about joining us at Promise Keepers. The motion carried with no objection.

E-mail Survey: Mike & Scott

Several changes were made to the survey. The committee approved adding check boxes for new information and a check box for updates to old information. Additionaly, we approved making all privacy statements bold font. The survey will be distributed on April 9th.

Conclusion of last month's minutes

Roberto motioned to accept all of last month’s minutes. The motion carried with no objection.

New Business

Identity: Pastor Yvette Garcia

Yvette is working on giving the men’s ministry a unique, consistent identity. This involves deciding on a name, a logo, a Bible verse, and the like. Paul and Yvette will be working on this project. They will have several choices for the committee to vote on next month.

Men's Breakfast Announcement: Paul

We are having a breakfast April 15th

Men's Ministry Website: Scott

Scott talked about the new website www.accministry.com for the men’s ministry. Some of its current uses will be to keep the monthly minutes and agendas. It may also be used to keep track of the finances of the men’s ministry funds. Eventually, the site will also contain the names of the committee officers and sub-committees. Scott further explained that anyone can view the site’s content, but only committee members have the ability to edit the content.

Table Volunteers needed: Roberto

Roberto expressed his desire to have men not only volunteer at the men’s ministry table, but also, if you’re not manning the table, we should bring men to the table to check it out.

Side Walk Sunday Van: Jim

There may be a new sub-committee forming to ensure the van is promptly fixed. Possible sub-committee members include Gus, Jesse Laguna, and Louis. Paul will contact Jesse and see about getting this started. We need to determine a cost for fixing the van.

Men's Ministry Fund: Louis

Roberto motioned to table this topic until May because we ran out of time. The motion carried with no objection.

Sunday Morning Coffee Service: Fred Magallanes

Roberto motioned to table this topic until May because we ran out of time. The motion carried with no objection.
